The Silos – A Unique Holiday Stay

Two former agricultural silos have been transformed into unique, self-catering accommodations, offering a quirky twist on traditional getaways. These charming spaces combine the minimalist charm of tiny homes with the distinctive curves and impressive verticality of the silos. With sweeping views of the picturesque North Wessex Downs, they are the perfect retreat for those seeking something a little different in the heart of nature.

Silos are iconic cylindrical structures used for grain storage, with the smaller, corrugated steel grain bin silos typically designed for short-term use. The Sheepdrove Silos, however, stand out as fully sealed tower structures, engineered to preserve barley without the threat of pests, mold, or vermin, ensuring optimal storage conditions for livestock feed. This farm served as a Beef Cattle Progeny Test Centre under the Milk Marketing Board (MMB) during the 1960s and 1970s. It boasted a range of purpose-built facilities, including these innovative silos, all designed to support cutting-edge breeding and research programs.

Thoughtfully conceived and createdby local eco designer Giles Cale to enhance a connection with the surrounding heritage landscape, The Silos offer a unique ‘upside-down’ living space. The spacious, light-filled main living area is located on the upper floor, providing breathtaking panoramic views, while below, you’ll find scenic walks that begin right at the base of the spiral staircase.

Please note that access to The Silos involves a two-storey outdoor spiral staircase, followed by another wooden spiral staircase leading up to the living space. Due to the nature of these stairs, the accommodation may not be suitable for dogs, young children, elderly guests, or anyone with mobility concerns. We recommend considering this before booking, as the stairs can be challenging for some guests.

Each Silo offers a double bedroom, creating a cosy retreat ideal for couples. For those wishing to share the experience, why not book both Silo 1 and Silo 2 for the perfect getaway for up to four guests?
