Set in West Berkshire, in the heart of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape with rolling hills as far as the eye can see, and winds that wake you to the world. An honest working organic farm, award-winning, alive with purpose and wildlife, driven to share everything we are discovering on this journey.
Founded in the 1970s by Peter and Juliet Kindersley, co-founders of Dorling Kindersley publishing, from a vision of self-sufficient, land-connected living. In 1997, conversion to certified organic farming began… wild flowers and insects returned, grasslands thrived. Then came the Green Venue, a Net-Zero Operational Carbon Building powered by 100% renewable energy, solar, battery storage, geothermal heat, natural ventilation system, natural building materials, off-grid natural water filtration. Inside, a DK Library, where the books and the land are reunited.
Today the community grows as the farm does, season by season, idea by idea.

Sheepdrove – The Ancient Drove Roads
Long before Sheepdrove was a farm, it was an important route. Across the chalk downs of England, shepherds moved their flocks along ancient tracks – drove roads – walking sheep between pastures, to market, from lowland winter grazing up to the open downland in summer. These paths were so woven into daily life that the land here itself took its name from them. A “sheepdrove” wasn’t a place on a map so much as a description of what happened there, generation after generation – sheep, being driven, along the drove. That’s the ground we farm on. The name isn’t a made-up word, it’s a working word, connected from the land’s own memory of what it was for.

A future where we are connected to the land in many ways – visiting, eating, buying, working, walking, belonging – equally valuing diversity in the people who come to it, and in the biodiversity it holds. Part of a network of organic farms wild with life of all kinds, no matter how small, even microscopic, with its people rooted in purpose, respect and trade.
Eating is an agricultural act, honouring ancient wisdom and the world’s farming cultures alike, with a thirst for knowledge at every wonder we come across in this infinite world. The eco-nomy is crafted from a rich eco-logy, one that keeps regenerating in ways we couldn’t yet imagine.
