We're members of the Pasture Fed Livestock Association . (PFLA) This means that our cows and sheep eat exactly what they’re designed to eat - pasture!
Our animals are free to roam large fields of organic grass and herbs, high up on the Berkshire Downs. Organic standards dictate that animals have access to fields for most of their lives and access to appropriate food stuffs, but the PFLA goes one step further. They say:
"Pasture containing grasses, wildflowers and herbs is the natural diet of cattle and sheep. Yet today, very few animals are fed on pasture alone. Many farmers now try to produce their meat as quickly as possible, by feeding things like cereals and imported soya, and keeping them indoors for some, or all of the time. So animals are vanishing from our fields and the tasty, healthy food they produce from grazing grass is hard to find. The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association brings together British farmers committed to producing high quality food in a more natural way."
It's not just sheep and cattle that eat grass though. Our pigs and laying hens all have a huge amount of grass in their diets. Healthy pasture is central to everything we do.
